Theory Paper – I (Applied Theory)

Unit – I (25 Classes per year)
    1. Characteristic features of all the prescribed Raagas.
        1.1 Alheiya Bilawal
        1.2 Bhupali
        1.3 Kalyan
        1.4 Khamaj
        1.5 Kafi
        1.6 Durga
        1.7 Tilang
        1.8 Vrundabani Saranga
    2.Comparative study of all the prescribed Raagas.
Unit – II (25 Classes per year)
    1. Shastriya Parichay of all the prescribed Taalas like Teertaal, Ektaal, Jhamptaal, Kaharwa and Rupak.
    2. Knowledge of simple Layakaris like Dugun, Tigun, Chaugun and Adi Layas.
    3. Ability to write the Thekas with Taali and Thaali of the above prescribed Taalas.
Unit – III (25 Classes per year)
    1. Knowledge of Masitkhaani and Rajakhaani Gat.
    2. Ability to write simple notations.
    3. Identification of Swara (Suddha and Vikruta).

Theory Paper – II (General Theory)

Unit – I (25 Classes per year)
    1. Elementary knowledge of acoustic application of music.
        1.1 Dhwani – its varieties.
        1.2 Nada – its varieties.
        1.3 Three qualities of Nada (Pitch, timbre, magnitude).
        1.4 Genetic specification of Nada.
Unit – II (25 Classes per year)
    1. Definitions – Sangeet, That, Raaga, Taala, Saptak, Badi, Sambadi, Aroha, Abaroha, Jati and Pakad.
Unit – III (25 Classes per year)
    1. Physical description of instrument.
    2. Knowledge of various Jatis of Raaga.
Unit – IV (25 Classes per year)
    1. Life history of the following musicians.
        1.1 M. Hamed Ahed
        1.2 Gajanan Nandi
        1.3 Mohini Mohan Pattnaik
        1.4 Tan Sen

+2 COURSE (FIRST YEAR)

Practical Paper – I

Classes Required – One Class / Two consecutive periods daily

    1. Demonstration of choice Raagas.
    2. Ten Alankars in Bilawar That in various Jatis.
    3. Aroha in ten That.
    4. Rajakhaani Gat with simple Taans of all the Raagas mentioned in the Applied Theory Paper I.
    5. One Masitkhaani Gat with Aalap Taan in the following Raagas.
        5.1 Bhupali
        5.2 Kalyan
        5.3 Allheya Bilawal
    6. Ability to play one Dhun or Bhajan based on any Raaga.

Practical Paper – II

Classes Required – One Class / Two consecutive periods daily,

    1. Shastriya Parichay of all the prescribed Raagas mentioned in Practical Paper I.
    2. Identification of Raagas by hearing simple notations.
    3. Knowledge of the following Taalas: Teertaal, Ektaal, Jhamptaal, Kaharwa and Rupak.
    4. Show the Thekas of the Taala by clapping.
    5. Oral test of Theory (Applied and General).

Theory Paper – I (Applied Theory)

Unit – I (25 Classes per year)
    1. Characteristic features of all the prescribed Raagas.
        1.1 Bhairav
        1.2 Bhairavi
        1.3 Ashavari
        1.4 Desh
        1.5 Tilok Kamod
        1.6 Kedar

        1.9 Bhimpalasi
    2. Comparative study of all the prescribed Raagas of this year and previous year (Alheiya Bilawal, Bhupali, Kalyan, Khamaj, Kafi, Durga, Tilang and Vrundabani Saranga).
    3. Ability to write the notation of Masitkhaani and Rajakhaani Gat in Pt. Bhatkhande Notation System.
    4. Ability to play Gats in Jhhamptaal, Ektaal and Rupak Taal.
Unit – II (25 Classes per year)
    1. Knowledge of Pt. Bhatkhande and Pt. Paluskar notation system.
    2. Knowledge of different varieties of Taans.
Unit – III (25 Classes per year)
    1. Knowledge of following Taalas.
        1.1 Dadra
        1.2 Sultaal
        1.3 Teora
        1.4 Chautaal
        1.5 Dipchandi
        1.6 Dhamaar
    2. Comparative study of all the prescribed Taalas of this year and previous year (Teertaal, Ektaal, Jhamptaal, Kaharwa and Rupak.
    3. Ability to write the Thhekas with different Layakaris – Dugun, Teengun, Chaugun, 3/2, 2/3, 3/4, 4/3.
Unit – IV (25 Classes per year)
    1. General knowledge of the following forms – Dhrupad, Dhamar, Khayal, Lakhyam Geet, Raagamala, Lok Geet, and Dhun.
    2. Preliminary knowledge of Sadaj – Madhyam and Sadaj – Pancham Bhabas.

Theory Paper – II (General Theory)

Unit – I (25 Classes per year)
    1. Definition – Aalap, Jodh, Jhala, Taan, Laya, Layakari, Shruti, Swara, Nada, Dhwani, Matra, Mind, Sut, Ghasit, Sthhayee, Antara, Gamak and Kana Swara.
    2. Knowledge of Badi, Sambadi, Anubadi, Bibadi, Nyasa Swara and Varna.
Unit – II (25 Classes per year)
    1. Physical description of your own instrument.
    2. Classification of Indian instruments.
    3. Essay on General Topic on Music
       3.1 Importance of Music in the Society.
       3.2 Shastriya Sangeet and Bhaba Sangeet.
       3.3 A Classical Music Evening.
Unit – III (25 Classes per year)
    1. Comparative study of Shruti, Swara and Saptaka.
    2. Comparative study of Thhaat and Raaga.
    3. Knowledge of Sandhi Prakash Raagas.
